Welcome to EasternBand.com!!! ============================================= Some food for thought... In the last quarter our government lost 60 million dollars from the Minor's Trust Fund. 60 million dollars would have bought 600 homes valued at $100,000.00 each. We have 600 families waiting for homes... It is a damned shame. We not only have to eat that loss, but we also have to indemnify the Minor's Fund. This means we have to replace the missing money. When it is all said and done, we will be out a total of 120 million dollars (1,200 homes @ $100,000.00 each).
Tribal Council hasn't told us how much more we lost out of the Endowment Funds... And you voted to re-elect the scum. Wake the hell up.

Local jury won’t hear Wong case
Written by Beth Pleming
The capital murder trial against a Florida man accused of gunning down a state trooper last year near a Canton I-40 exit may not be heard in Haywod County.
For nearly two days, state prosecutors have argued with defense attorneys representing Edwardo Wong II, who is accused of gunning down a state trooper Shawn Blanton last year.
At issue is where the capital murder case against Edwardo ... [Read More]

What should We Do? |
|
Jun 29, 2009 - 4:58 PM - by The Raven

I have read the varous suggestions about how we should go about regaining the Tribal Government of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. To me the answer is simple. We form a citizens Committee and petition the election Board for a referendum to rescind the May 08, 1986, Resolution adopting a new Charter and Governing Document. Our reason for requesting the Referendum being based on the fact that there was never a vote of the people to over-ride the 1897 Charter and Governing Document. The Governing document in that Charter being the Constitution of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Lawyers in Tribal Council |

Jun 16, 2009 - 7:50 AM - by The Raven

For many months now we have watched the idiocy of our legislative body in performing their elected duty. Last Thursday was the pivital point of the abuse of power by Annette (Czarina) Tarnawski, Tribal Attorney General and Principal Chief, Michel Hicks. How many other governing bodies do see having the attorney general dictate their version of the law to the legislative body? answer: 0. This was during the reading of several last will and testiment of deceased Tribal membeers, and one request from one tribal member concerning encroachment onto his family land holding.

Can you believe this: after all the hoopla about alcohol in the Cherokee Casino, according to WLOS news, Bryson City is opening a brewery and selling all over the State. Do you think we should protest because red necks and beer don't mix well?

Lopez stops Lontchi in 9th round
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP)—Juan Manuel Lopez stopped Olivier Lontchi in the ninth round to retain the WBO junior featherweight title Saturday night.
For Lopez (26-0, 24 KOs), the TKO was his 14th consecutive knockout.
“I knew going to be difficult,” Lopez said. “He was very awkward and very difficult to fight. I think the he was way fighting he wasn’t really boxing. He was running a lot. I didn’t f... [Read More]

America, meet 17-year-old Melanie Oudin |

Jun 28, 2009 - 12:47 AM - by Raven

This is Melanie Oudin. After a three-set win over former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic, the 17-year-old qualifier from Georgia advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon, joining the Williams sisters as the only Americans to do so. With this country's women's tennis scene desperate for a breakout star (it's been 12 years since we were introduced to Venus and Serena), Oudin may be American's next great hope.
The diminutive Oudin (she's just 5 feet 5 inches tall) was dominant on the junior c... [Read More]

Woods’ US Open title defense starts with adventure
By TIM REYNOLDS, AP Sports Writer
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP)—Tiger Woods’ defense of the U.S. Open championship started with an adventure.
Woods pulled his tee shot 50 yards into the rough before scrambling for an improbable par on his opening hole Thursday morning, as steady rain pelted an already-moist Bethpage Black and had course workers scurrying to keep it playable.
Playing alongsid... [Read More]
