"Noro-Like" Virus Spreads at Harrah's Cherokee
GAMBLING IS MAKING PEOPLE SICKER THAN DOGS
Nearly 200 people are now sick, after a gastro-intestinal outbreak at Harrah's Cherokee Casino. The Jackson County Health Department is calling it a "noro-like" virus. The health department director says she won't know until test results come back on Thursday whether it is indeed the norovirus they're dealing with. In the meantime, staff at Harrah's Cherokee are working 24 hours a day to clean, sanitize, and re-sanitize the entire building. We're told more than half of the affected people are employees of the casino. They've been instructed not to return to work for 48 to 72 hours after their symptoms subside. The health department also warns that not all hand sanitizers or cleaning solutions are effective against this virus. They say the best way to fight its spread is for people to frequently and thoroughly scrub their hands with soap and hot water. By Heather Graf |
